Hi, I own a MSI KATANA GF76 12UGSZOK-631FR laptop (i7-12650H, 16Gb RAM, RTX 3070Ti). Recently I powered on my PC to play GeoGuessr in the browser, and during gameplay I experienced two BSODs. These were W11 Pro: CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT and HYPERVISOR_ERROR. I performed several troubleshooting steps: ran MemTest665, executed 15 loops with no errors, ran chkdsk and DSIM commands, set hypervisor launch type to auto via bcdedit, checked drivers using the integrated verifier, updated a motherboard driver and Intel graphics. Despite these checks, I still faced issues. My PC felt extremely sluggish. After launching Cyberpunk 2077, it ran at only 30fps—far below its usual performance. The game had not reset its settings. I also noticed my system would shut down slowly and take a long time to restart. No new software had been installed recently, except for the Kung Fury game on Steam. I’m worried about the impact on my savings and the potential damage to my device. I’m seeking help now. Please assist me.

Perform a system restore to the state before issues began and check for improvements.

I couldn’t complete the task because of the lack of a backup save, but I managed to perform a hard reset and it now functions properly. What are your thoughts? I’m hoping this doesn’t happen again.

the problem could be resolved by reinstalling or changing the software, suggesting a possible hardware issue is unlikely.

I understand. Before I restart, I ran a malware byte scan and found 9 malware threats. That might have been the reason.

Generally, most viruses aim for the system to run smoothly, leaving little room for diagnosing the root cause, which often leads to guesswork.
