In simple terms, I recently saw a big drop in frames per second in CS:GO. What used to be around 200-250fps at full settings fell to 50-70fps at low 900p, making 1080p impossible. I checked the task manager and found my CPU was using 90-100% of its power, then dropping to about 10%. I kept opening and closing it, but the same issue happened quickly. It was hot (about 63°C) and stayed that way while gaming. My brother recently torrented games, so I thought a miner might be the cause. It only affected my CPU, not my GPU. MSI Afterburner showed all cores at 100% even when Task Manager said only 10%. My Ryzen 5 1600 at 3.7GHz is the model in question. What should I do? Move important files to the HDD and format the SSD? Run a quick antivirus scan? Also, I found something strange in Task Manager: a mysterious "miner" appeared, but it has no name. The file is in the directory: C:\Users\Rúben Lucas\AppData\Roaming\svchost, and the name is "svchost". Can I safely delete it and remove its contents?
A virus-like entity appears, though CPU mining viruses are uncommon (due to low efficiency). Most focus on GPUs to achieve the desired outcome. The initial step should be a scan, starting with the Task Manager to identify which process consumes the most CPU.
On many Windows 10 systems, opening Task Manager usually causes a brief increase to 100%, but your own machine only reached 73%. It’s possible you’re observing a different process or there’s a minor glitch. Before closing any programs, consider running Malware Bytes to check for hidden threats.
The creators likely earn revenue through various methods such as subscriptions, ads, or direct payments from users.
Starting Task Manager frequently triggers a temporary rise in CPU activity, which might explain the observation, though it shouldn't impact game performance.
Can't argue against you and if there is some degree of profit in torrent games i usually let it pass by on purpose since i like to format my ssd once in 1-2 months, by that time i'd already bought the full version of the game (I'm one of those persons that can't buy a game without trying it first), but full out mining kinda crosses my line.
MSI afterburner was showing steady 100% CPU consumption, which wasn't indicative of spyke. I've installed Bitdefender and scanned my system; so far, only minor threats were found and the CPU usage has decreased from 10-30% to a lower level.
You don't have to violate any rules to test a game. Steam offers a 2-week refund if you haven't played it for more than 2 hours.
I don’t feel the trial is sufficient, but downloading pirated files isn’t illegal as long as you aren’t using them for business or distribution.
