Hello. My MAK key is from five years ago, and I've used it across four personal devices. Each time I turned on a device, Windows first mentioned it was using the VOLUME_MAK key. After a clean install, it automatically switched to a RETAIL key, which felt completely different. The same MAK key consistently activated the devices, even after I changed accounts or upgraded to newer Windows versions. It worked reliably when I gave my device to someone else and logged in with a different Microsoft account. I’m curious how this happens. Any explanation?

Was diese Schlüssel von einem Händler gekauft? Solche Lizenzen sind eigentlich für große Unternehmen und Systembauer bestimmt. Nach meinem Wissen gibt es keine zuverlässige Möglichkeit für einen Einzelkäufer.

Yes, it was a seller online. It was extremely affordable, not even a penny at that time.

Purchasing inexpensive, low-quality keys comes with risks. Microsoft may revoke access at any moment if they discover such keys are being misused. It’s not always safe.

It's understandable you're curious about the details. The mention of retail and a digital license tied to your Microsoft account is standard for many services. It’s not inherently a downside unless you have specific concerns about data privacy or access. Your experience over five years suggests it works well for you.
