In short, I received a free laptop—a Asus Zenbook Q536FD. It was experiencing "drive issues," so I performed a fresh Windows 11 installation. After setting it up and installing updates, everything seemed to download normally. However, the system runs very slowly, which is unusual given its powerful specs: an 8th-gen i7 processor, 16GB RAM, and a GTX 1050 graphics card. It’s possible the problem lies with software ASUS requires or with CPU throttling. Despite checking resource monitor, task manager, and seeing normal performance metrics, there are no obvious causes. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The SSD or HDD is the storage device, not the Windows itself. Windows runs on the computer's hardware, including the SSD or HDD.

Have you checked the temperatures? Perhaps try a complete reinstall...

It's quite unusual. Buying just 1TB of optane seems expensive, so I might switch to another storage option in this laptop—plus, I'll unplug the HDD to check if things are still stable.

You should look into it further to confirm your thoughts.

It might be running in acceleration mode even when the HDD is still active. Alternatively, I could try connecting both drives without them and run a Linux OS from a USB drive to compare speeds. If that works, it could indicate problems with one or both drives.
