Hello everyone, this laptop has been with me for five years and worked perfectly until about five months ago when it began showing signs of lag. In gaming, I've never noticed any lag except for thermal throttling, which only happens with high-end AAA titles and not with older games from a few years back. I replaced the thermal paste around three months ago, but the issue has worsened. Even though temperatures stayed below 80 degrees Celsius, one of the games I was playing would crash, which hasn't happened before.

For everyday tasks like creating Word documents with Grammarly, browsing Chrome, watching YouTube, or using Discord, the laptop lags significantly. Recently, it has been getting worse, especially with Microsoft Word and Discord freezing, causing it to just freeze without displaying clear errors.

Here are my laptop specifications:
- ASUS TUF FX705DT (2019)
- Ryzen 7 3750H
- Nvidia GeForce GTX1650 Mobile
- 16GB DDR4 240MHz RAM (Dual Channel)
- 256GB SSD and 1TB HDD (7200RPM)
- Running Windows 11 Home 64-Bit

I've tried several fixes, such as running SFC and DISM, which revealed an error that was quickly resolved. Now the lag persists despite these steps. I also uninstalled unnecessary bloatware, keeping only Windows Defender, but haven't found any other reason why this is happening compared to people with older machines.

Would anyone have suggestions or want to discuss my device further? Thanks in advance.

there might be a problem with the RAM or battery in some laptops, as they sometimes draw power from the battery instead of using the outlet. the number of hours you use it each day matters, and leaving it open while sleeping could impact its lifespan and performance.

Hello, during summer vacation I rarely take my laptop out because most of my work is done at home. On average, I use it for 10 to 12 hours, and those sessions are always plugged in except for a couple of times when I unplug it briefly to change environments. I turn it off whenever I nap, go outside, or go to bed, so it stays connected only when necessary.

The previous time it received thorough cleaning was five years ago.

Hello, yes I mentioned this before but I think I didn't go into details enough, that's fine.
I recently updated my thermal paste about three months ago (the problem had been there before too, so I thought the heat paste might be the cause) and I also did some cleaning.
Regarding maintenance, I open and clean the inside of my laptop once a year and replace the thermal paste every two years or whenever I notice more than usual thermal throttling, which many YouTubers recommended. I've been following that schedule since I bought my laptop.
For cleaning, I just open the laptop and remove dust using a small blower; if I change the paste, I usually do a more thorough cleaning of the copper pipes by rubbing them with isopropyl alcohol.

I noticed it's quite challenging to figure out the cause, so I ran some tests and kept Task Manager open. It seems my CPU frequently spikes up, averaging between 50% to 100%. When I keep Discord, Word, and Chrome open at the same time, RAM usage stays stuck at 65%, no matter what I do on my laptop. Is this a sign that something is wrong or just normal wear and tear?
