Your laptop freezes right after a glitchy artifact happens
I have an Acer Nitro 5 AN515-52 computer. It comes with a Core i7 processor, 8GB RAM (actually you said 16GB but then wrote 8GB, I will stick to your text), 1TB hard drive, and a graphics card called GeForce GTX Graphics 1050 Ti. The screen says it has 4 GB of memory for that graphics, and the storage is on a fast 230GB Samsung Nvme SSD. It runs Windows 10 version 22H2.
This week I had this problem twice. I was working in Cinema4D when my computer suddenly froze with strange pictures appearing on the screen. The charging cable was connected but not plugged into the wall. After rebooting it, there was no picture at all. I tried turning it off and back on several times by holding the power button down hard, but that didn't work either.
To check if Windows got broken or if something else is wrong with my computer, I kept pressing F2 and Del to get into the BIOS settings. The screen stayed blank while I did this. I noticed my laptop was making a loud beep sound when it turned on from the wall during the start-up process. This beeping happens every time I switch power on normally, but it never happened while I was using the computer. After I forced it to turn off and let it sit for 20 minutes without charging, it started working fine again after I pressed the button normally.
Then I tried a command called "chkdsk /f /r c:" inside my admin commands window. After restarting, it checked for errors at the beginning of the computer. It fixed some problems while showing me a progress bar. Everything worked well for an hour, but then when I put the laptop into hibernate mode like I usually do, after 30 to 40 minutes passed, if I turned it back on, I got the same glitchy pictures and freezing again. Both of these things happened while I was doing simple 3D modeling in Cinema4D.
I am using a very new version of graphics drivers from Nvidia called 528.49. Have my graphics drivers gotten corrupt? I haven't installed any new software, nor have I done any big Windows updates in the last week or so (as far as I can remember). At first, I thought it was just the screen being broken. But now I don't know what is going on.
I also had trouble pressing the power button for 5 to 6 seconds to start my computer since about July or August 2022. I created a thread here: https://community.acer.com/en/discu...o-...-52#latest.
I use the method from that link now as a way to turn on my laptop. https://community.acer.com/en/discussion...ent_958732
You can copy and paste this process: Apparently, there is a small switch inside somewhere in the middle of the keyboard near letters like X, C, V, D, or F. I pressed down on that spot and pushed the power button at the same time, and finally the laptop turned on.
For safety, I put pressure on the spot below those letters too. This also works when I type with other keys on the keyboard. It was mentioned not to press too hard, because you might hurt internal hardware. Have I damaged something inside my computer? I am starting this post while I type on the same laptop right now.
Hey there! No need to bump posts here. Tom's Forum and the community are all in good shape on their own, so we'll get back to you soon. But things might not happen exactly when you think they will. First thing I'd suggest is updating your bios. What version are you running? You can check this under the motherboard tab in CPU-z. It could also be the GPU itself. Have you cleaned the laptop recently or at all? If so, that could help too. Your system has been around for a few years now. While dust buildup can slow things down, it might not actually be the main problem. Edit: Have you tried using an external monitor from one of the ports? Might be worth trying to make sure.
