Hello! My router is a Xiaomi R3G with a gigabit and 5GHz support. After switching ISPs, my internet speed jumped to about 555 mbps. Testing via USB 3.0 port gave me roughly 580 mbps on Speedtest.net. Using the WiFi adapter works fine with no issues. The router is about nine feet away from my PC, and there are no walls blocking the signal. On the dashboard, it shows 555 mbps, which matches what I see on Speedtest.

My phone’s speed appears higher in tests, possibly due to app interference or differences in testing methods. On average, I get around 200-250 mbps for both upload and download, while the router consistently reports 555 mbps. That’s a noticeable drop compared to wired speeds.

Is it normal for wireless connections to be about half as fast as wired ones? Yes, especially with distance or interference. Many users experience similar ranges, so it’s quite typical.

Are there additional networks nearby? You might need to switch channels by about half to reduce interference, though sometimes higher channels work better. I've noticed a 100Mbit variation with the same connection speed depending on the channel. With a solid 866Mbit link, speeds would likely fall between 400-600Mbit. The USB adapter's placement could also be affecting performance—try using a shorter extension and moving it around to test. Signal reflections often cause sudden drops in speed when usage is high.

Do you manage stock firmware? Xiaomi updates can sometimes break your link, especially with Mi Router 3 and 3G (OG version). After updating to Padavan, everything ran smoothly. If you want details on the process, just message me—I'll get back to you quickly. Alternatively, you could try OpenWRT as a backup option.
