I previously experienced speeds over 100Mbps, now it's barely 1Mbps at most. The issue isn't limited to distance. My connection used to be around 30Mbps but has dropped significantly. I'm connected via Wi-Fi because the router is on the floor above me. What might be behind this decline? Thanks ahead!

No, the actions remain consistent regardless of your proximity to the router.

Does your phone include a spectrum analyzer? It can help identify additional networks sharing the same channel. If multiple ones appear, adjust your router's settings and switch your Wi-Fi to a less congested frequency.

It works. I receive roughly 40Mbps when I'm around 15 feet from the router.

It runs on a Virgin Media Super Hub 3 device (also known as Arris TG2492LG-VM). I haven’t changed its firmware, and I’m not sure what the process involves.

Your Wi-Fi is set to operate on the 9 through 13 channels within the 2.4GHz range, making it the sole channel in use for that range.

Confirm connection to the 2.4GHz band. It should transmit a 5.2GHz network, offering quicker speeds when within range despite a reduced coverage area.
