You're gaming on a decent setup for the time, but the performance isn't where you'd expect. With your i7-12700H and 32GB RAM, you should be able to squeeze in more frames if you adjust settings properly. Lowering DirectX12 and performance mode helps, but the 4GB RAM might be limiting your frame rate, especially at lower resolutions like 1440x900. Check if your GPU is running at full utilization—sometimes drivers or background processes can throttle performance. If you're still struggling, consider increasing RAM or switching to a more powerful GPU for gaming.

If your display can't support 4K at 120Hz, it will struggle to maintain over 60 frames per second. Adjust your Windows display settings—no matter what you've configured for output size—go to System > Display > Advanced Display > and modify your refresh rate. If it's stuck at 60Hz, you're likely hitting the limit. In simple terms, your refresh rate matches the highest frame rate your game can handle without stuttering or tearing. For instance, with monitors at 2560x1440 running at 165Hz, I can run games at that resolution and 165fps smoothly. I also used a full 4K setup across three monitors, keeping one at 1440p while others matched it, but the core idea stays the same: match your refresh rate to your game's capabilities.

Your screen caps at 60 frames per second, but sometimes it drops to 20–30 fps causing stuttering. You’re aiming for a smoother experience, so keeping it above 60 would help prevent visible lag. It seems the GPU is struggling with the game’s demands. Your laptop’s refresh rate matches the monitor’s, which is good, but optimizing game settings could raise the average to around 70 fps without noticeable issues.

Which laptop are we talking about? This setup seems unusual with the CPU and GPU combination, so there might be more to it. The 3050ti Mobile 4G is definitely not great, but it shouldn’t be this terrible. How were your temperatures while playing games?

Your CPU temperatures seem to be between 80-90°C while the GPU is around 70-80°C on your Dell XPS 15.

I noticed the comment about Fortnite being set to performance mode. That seems unusual since performance settings usually relate to graphics drivers or APIs. It might mean the game is configured for better rendering efficiency. Are you checking your system temperatures to ensure your CPU isn’t overheating?

I don’t own a fan cooler. The game I’m playing (Fortnite) has a performance mode. I’m not sure what it relies on during that mode. It seems my GPU isn’t being utilized, but it’s tricky to confirm because I move between the game and Task Manager without seeing any stats. I’m not sure if it just vanishes when I switch tabs.

Check if the system is utilizing the iGPU via the i7=12700H or switching to the RTX 3050 Ti. Determine whether it's powered by battery or connected to a charger. Verify if CPU frequency can be observed, as Intel only provides maximum or up-to limits for this model. It may be throttling from high temperatures, reducing performance.

It seems the system is relying solely on the integrated graphics. Adjusting GPU settings to switch to a dedicated GPU didn’t help, and there are no options in the BIOS to disable the iGPU. Using the device manager to turn off the integrated graphics also didn’t resolve the issue, likely because the dedicated GPU isn’t being utilized.

Have you checked the nVidia control panel? You can access 'Global Settings' and adjust it directly, or switch to 'Program Settings' for game-specific configurations. The default is 'Auto-select'.
