I noticed my hard drives appearing in USB safety remove. At first I wasn’t concerned, but after accidentally removing my game drive instead of the USB stick, I realized something was wrong. Now I’m trying to figure out how to fix this issue on Windows 11.

No, I didn't enable hot swap in the BIOS.

My profiles are set to default, but I'll review them for that option.

Yes, it was activated in the BIOS, so I turned off all the others. But I’m seeing this ghost drive (FSmile and there’s no USB connected.

It seems the feature appears only when the toggle is unchecked. You can still turn off viewing hidden files, which should resolve the issue.

It's the choice located higher up featuring two radio buttons for concealing hidden files, folders, and drives.

It's fine, I understand. You prefer seeing hidden folders displayed. The issue with the USB icon not appearing in Windows 10 when no devices are connected is likely related to your current version. In Windows 11, the behavior might be different, but you may still need to check device connections or settings.

You can select which icons appear consistently in the taskbar settings on Win11.
