Hey there! I’m looking for some advice on whether upgrading to 16GB RAM would be a good move with my current setup. Here’s what I have: an i5-4460 MSI H81M-P33 (MS-7187) with 4x2 8GB DDR3 at 1600mHz, a Zotac 1060 GB Amp Edition 6GB EVGA 500W bronze 80+ PSU, and a Crucial MX500 1TB drive. Also, I’m curious if it would help with gaming performance. Happy Holidays!

If you have enough money for the 16GB of RAM, I’d choose it. Right now 8GB works well for games, but 16GB will definitely help more than before.

Thanks! I feel skeptic at some point since it's DDR3 and just 1600mHz of speed. I figured I should just stick with it and just wait until I can upgrade my procie+mobo+RAM. Which also isn't going to be anytime soon.

It suggests the RAM should be replaced. I’d search for second-hand options instead.

The motherboard features just two expansion slots.

Currently, 16GB is the norm, but it really comes down to your PC usage habits. If you mainly play light games and don’t open many apps at once, you might not run out of RAM soon. For bigger upgrades, consider waiting until you have more budget. I’d use tools like hwinfo to track RAM usage during a regular day and check the highest and average values.

The "running out of RAM" issue appears to affect about 85-90% of users. With Apex Legends and Discord active, your system is already near full capacity—CPU usage hits 99-100% in Task Manager. The intermittent drops in ping and network stability might be linked to resource contention or background processes.

It seems the operating system is likely relying on a page file that's much slower, possibly draining memory from other areas and increasing CPU strain, leading to performance issues. Adding more RAM should help resolve this.
