I've experienced this problem for about three months now. I initially ignored it because I could put my PC to sleep and handle it quickly when restarting for updates. My storage setup was a 500GB SSD and a 2TB HDD, around Christmas I removed the HDD, transferred data from the SSD to a new Samsung 2TB SSD, and reformatted the 500GB SSD, using it only for games since its health was at about 83%. The issue resurfaced a few weeks later. When I power on my PC, the first screen I see is the one with Esc pressed, then Enter takes me to another screen where the PC restarts—sometimes performing a disk check, other times not. After a reboot, it boots normally. I searched online but couldn't find any information matching both the 0xc0000225 code and winload.efi. I attempted a factory reset to reinstall Windows, but I don’t have a USB stick available. My system specs are: 3700x, ASRock Velocita B550, BIOS P2.20, 16GB RAM DDR4 3200MHz, OS is Windows 10 Home 10.0.19045 Build 19045.
Your storage setup was originally a 500GB SSD and a 2TB HDD. Around Christmas you replaced the HDD with a new 2TB SSD, copied data from the old SSD to the new one, and reformatted the 500GB SSD. It worked for gaming until a few weeks later. Based on what you described, it seems the new 2TB drive might be your boot drive, while the 500GB remains as a secondary drive for games. You were wondering if not making the 2TB bootable with tools like Windows Media Creation Tool could have caused this issue. That would mean the 2TB became your Windows installation media instead of just a boot disk. Take care and good luck!
I don’t recall the setup details, but the 500GB SSD has no related files in it. To confirm the 2TB SSD is your boot drive, check your system settings or boot menu—usually it should be listed there. You can also verify by using a disk utility to see which drives are recognized. For organizing, keep the 2TB SSD as the boot drive and use the 500GB for games and other less important files.
Obtain a USB drive and install a Windows media creation utility. This tool prepares your USB as a bootable device and handles the Windows installation process. You can find the WMCT here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...c3b507420d. Use it when you have only a 2TB SSD installed. The utility will manage everything, just boot from the USB and follow the prompts. Be sure to save your settings before exiting BIOS. Restart the system using the flash drive and complete the setup on screen. Good luck!
I hoped for a solution without needing a USB drive since I don’t have one. I’ll proceed and install just the 2TB boot drive, thanks.
Ensure the USB you receive for this project meets a minimum size of 8 gigabytes. A slightly larger capacity would be beneficial, but it should not exceed 8 GB.
