Hey there, everyone. We switched ISPs recently and got this Zyxel 3415 modem/router package. It replaced my previous router, but it’s messing with my gaming setup. My family isn’t having any issues, though. I’m still getting disconnected from my PS4 Pro and Xbox One X every few minutes—sometimes more, sometimes less. After some tests on the 5GHz band for my PS4 Pro, here’s what I observed:

- Up: 65.1Mbps
- Dwn: 134.0Mbps
- Up: 104.0Mbps
- Dwn: 114.0Mbps
- Up: 94.4Mbps
- Dwn: 90.0Mbps
- Up: 125Mbps
- Dwn: 155.0Mbps

It’s definitely improved compared to usual, but it drops to single digits and jumps back up to nearly 200Mbps over WiFi. Sometimes it even powers off my PS4. The router isn’t easy to reach with an Ethernet cable, and I’m struggling to stream YouTube on either console. It’s starting to feel like a hassle, so I’m leaning toward getting a new one. Any advice or suggestions would be great!

Yes, you can switch the modem/router to modem-only mode and then return to using your router.

Set up your personal router by linking it to the ISP modem and utilize it for Wi-Fi or other connections.

I attempted, but it significantly slowed down the router's performance.

You might disable DHCP in your old router and switch to a different Wi-Fi channel. Connect it via a network cable, and it should function as an access point. On some devices, this is even available in the settings. Ensure you're using a distinct channel to avoid interference, as mismatched channels can cause speed issues. If your connection slowed down, check if your modem or router's Wi-Fi was powered off, as that could impact performance.
