Your Dell Latitude E6440 isn't starting up
Hello, I have an old Dell E6440 that won't start on certain days. I checked a second one and its battery was fine. But when I plugged in the power cable, the blue light went off right away, which suggests there is a short circuit somewhere. Then I took out my hard disk and put it into another laptop. That gave me an error saying "Invalid partition table." What could be causing this problem? If I swap the motherboard for a new one, can I still save the computer? Please help me with this.
It might have been just one short from a bad cable that fried the board instead of the chips inside your computer. You should start by looking over everything on the motherboard to see if anything looks burned or broken. Then, use a multimeter and check for any electrical shorts there. Since your laptop has an old QM87 chip set and the processor is stuck directly to the board, it won't be easy to fix at all. A brand new replacement would cost almost as much as buying another computer from 2023 that's used. I suggest leaving it alone for now.
