Recently I had to exchange my 2060 super because it was defective and received a new 3060ti. This upgrade creates a problem for my Ryzen 5 1600, so I was thinking about moving to a Ryzen 5 3600. Right now I still have my outdated ASUs prime a320m motherboard, and I was wondering if an upgrade was necessary. I’m not sure about the VRM temperatures on that board, as some people warn it might be unsafe and hurt performance. I don’t want to overclock since the a320m doesn’t support it. I’m not interested in BIOS updates, so I’m unsure if I need to change my motherboard or if I can keep using the current one. Before anyone complains about why I bought an a320m, it was just because I had to stay within a tight budget and built the PC a few years ago.
I believe a bios update should be possible to back the new CPU, though I might be mistaken. Someone else can verify this while I'm busy.
The GPU features its own VRMs. If you're concerned about power consumption, verify your power supply rather than the motherboard. Also, the 3600 generally consumes about the same power as the 1600 when under load, with only minor differences in wattage. If heat is a priority, consider purchasing inexpensive small heatsinks with thermal adhesive applied to the VRMs for extra assurance.
