I purchased a prebuilt CyberPower PC with a faulty AIO cooler. It caused my CPU to run hot during games (95-100°C) and around 70°C when idle. After replacing the cooler, my temps stayed under 85°C even at high loads like Cinnebench, and my CPU consistently hit 5.0 GHz at 10% usage. It still idles at about 60°C+ while running at full speed. The new ROG RYO III cooler was priced around $200, but I expected it to drop idle temps to 30-40°C. Can anyone assist in lowering idle temperatures without sacrificing performance? I didn’t realize a cooler was necessary, and the CPU fan contact seems fine.
The 14900K is among the most powerful CPUs available, if not the absolute best. What cooling solution are you using? Which AIO do you own? What fans are installed? Do you have any AIO fans? Is your environment warm? Are you running Windows Power Plan 1 on? If not, what is the lowest processor state in Windows Power Management?
I have a fishtank style setup with a glass front and side panels featuring intake ports on the sides of the computer. My AIO sits at the top of the case, 360mm tall, with the pump positioned below the radiator. The ROG Ryzen III ($200) cooler is included, and I assume these fans come with the cooler—probably a high-end model. The room temperature stays normal or chilly, and I keep the window next to my PC open, letting a steady stream of cool air flow directly onto it. My Windows power plan is set to balanced, and I’ve already tried setting the processor state to 5% usage.
The fans seem really warm too. What's the pump speed—likely better to check in percentage?
I expected that too when I received the PC; I flipped the intake on the opposite side, only to discover it still functioned as an intake. I checked it myself, which surprised me because cyberpower models typically have reverse fans, but the inlets from their previous units didn’t behave that way. I had to reorient them.
Are there any additional queries? How is the thermal paste applied? Do you have a retention bracket? What is the pump speed currently operating at?
i applied the thermal paste thinly, just a few layers, and it looked normal. i’m not sure what a retention bracket is, but i’ve used aios before without one and didn’t notice any temperature problems. my pump speed was set to max in the bios, yet the heat stayed the same.
I'd expect if the cooler had weak contact, it would also overheat during 100% load stress tests, similar to Cinnebench. Under load, the CPU would maintain normal temperatures below 85°C, with the peak spike reaching around 89°C.
