I cleaned up a significant mess made by someone I know. I used alcohol and a soft-bristled brush—like a gentle toothbrush—to carefully remove thermal paste from the CPU. The method worked best for getting all the residue off. For the socket, I cleaned the larger debris first with a towel. Make sure everything is completely dry before attempting to power anything back on.
