Your internet speed is lower than expected because the network card isn't fully utilizing your connection. Check for drivers, ensure the cable is secure, and verify your network settings. Also, consider using a wired connection over Wi-Fi for better performance.

Bottlenecks usually occur on the server side. Unless a QoS policy is in place, the issue often stems from insufficient 1Gbps upload speeds.

Use a different cable length. Ensure your router is compatible with gigabit speeds.

Router works well with my 1 gigabit connection. That’s about 1 gigabyte per second.

I also tried using my network with a 1 gig switch. It shows the speed is confirmed at 1 gig, but my computer can't achieve that rate even with a Cat6 cable and a 1 gig network card.

I question if the router is capable of handling a high load. Gig ports have no relevance to the router's function. Which model are you using?

It's an Xfinity XFi router, included with the 1Gig plan.
