I have a Ryzen 1600X with Corsair Vengeance LPX (3000MhZ) and an Asus Strix 1080. Most games I play, except a few, reach around 60 FPS, usually at 1440p on Ultra. It seems the issue isn’t just hardware—it’s that even when adjusting settings like dropping to 1080p or switching from Ultra to Mid-High, the frame rate stays at 60. I checked my NVIDIA Control panel and confirmed the monitor is set to 90Hz, but most games don’t need that high and won’t exceed it anyway. Some titles occasionally drop below 60 depending on the situation, but never go over. Other games that should hit 90 FPS usually run smoothly without issues. I also looked into game settings, but options like MGSV only let you pick between 30 or Auto FPS, so there’s no specific GPU limit shown. Could there be a setting in my GPU profile preventing higher performance?
V-Sync controls the synchronization between the monitor's refresh rate and the gaming frame rate, preventing screen tearing. It’s not a refresh rate setting itself but a hardware/software coordination feature. It differs from G-Sync and Freesync, which are software solutions that lock the refresh rate to the display.
When using a standard 60Hz display, motion blur would appear extremely unpleasant. This is why V-Sync is necessary. See this illustration:
The feature is available in the NVIDIA control panel as well.
