This computer has become unusually slow lately. Tasks that once opened quickly now take minutes. You think the SSD might be the issue? Your benchmark results show inconsistent performance, with some runs working smoothly and others struggling later. Any advice on troubleshooting or fixes?

nice While you are experiencing one of those laggy episodes, I'd check how your CPU utilization as well as it's clockspeed and temperatures look like. Maybe something is running in the background, or your CPU overheated. The high temperature and those very low write speeds in the first test, look odd on your SSD. But the SMART report is fine and the random read/writes are too, which are usually more indicative of performance.

Launch the task manager to see which processes are consuming your storage space; this could also be due to elevated CPU usage.

The CPU usage appears typical, around 12-20% at the moment.

the cpu usage is low and the temperature is around 55c, the computer is functioning normally at first. i plan to send you screenshots when it starts lagging again. i’ve noticed my laptop usually powers off after about 30 minutes, but now it doesn’t shut down even after hours unless i force it. i checked the power settings and changed them to 25 minutes, but it still won’t sleep. what could be causing this?

The 55C idle CPU temp seems elevated. Which processor do you own? Usually, idle temperatures stay around the 30s. That’s typical except for Ryzen models, which may run hotter at rest.

It's an Intel Core i5 63000U in a laptop, and I can confirm it's typical for me because it's been this way all along. Also, the outside temperature is around 40°C for me.

You're experiencing life in the future, right? A 15-degree delta sounds fine, but a laptop under heavy use might struggle to keep its CPU cool. Current models hit their thermal limits, especially at around 20°C ambient temps. You probably have limited options—repasting the CPU could help boost performance, though it's not always practical.

It seems like you're joking about someone not having to deal with a rookie who got criticized for sharing tech advice.

These speed ratings aren’t accurate for your setup. This should be your quickest write performance. https://davemateer.com/2020/04/19/Disk-p...HDD-vs-SSD How much space is used on that drive? Are you running the standard Windows storage driver or a custom one?
