I’ve observed that sometimes my GPU performance dips from full capacity to around 80–90% when I increase detail settings, especially at very high resolutions. The frame rate decreases noticeably, while CPU usage stays steady between 20–40%. There’s no VSync or frame limit affecting this behavior, and everything runs at standard clock speeds with the latest BIOS. What could be limiting the 3080 at 4K? I plan to share Afterburner data later to better explain what’s happening.
This approach works well with how it's used. Greater resolution and refresh rate mean more GPU-dependent performance.
It seems the limited VRAM on your graphics card is likely the main issue. You usually experience underuse because your requirements for VRAM surpass what you have, forcing the system to switch between RAM and SSD. Have you checked your GPU's VRAM usage?
I haven’t really experienced this yet. Frustration; when did 10GB feel like a modest amount of VRAM? If that’s the problem, will I face the same challenge with a 12GB card or am I jumping into something too big?

It varies by game, but generally yes—opt for the cheapest improvements like extra RAM or a 5800X3D. Personally, I wouldn’t go overboard.
For 4K, around six years ago, 6GB seemed sufficient for 1440p while 4GB was considered too limited for 1080p. Over two years ago, the trend shifted: 8GB became standard for 1080p, 12GB for 1440p, and 16+ for 4K. Additionally, ray tracing demands extra VRAM. This is why AMD GPUs, which previously struggled with RT, are now catching up by offering significantly more VRAM.
