I just swapped my 5800X for a 5700X3D today. After the first boot, I checked the clocks with Libre Hardware Monitor and saw the chip ramping up to 5.1GHz all the way. When I played a few games, performance jumped noticeably. In Path of Exile on the Kingsmarch area, I reached about 300 FPS (around 220 FPS on the old model). I ran a 30-minute multi-core test on Cinebench 2024 and got a score of 1017. I was thrilled—real performance and stable operation. After the next restart, the chip dropped back to 4.1 GHz, and the same area in Path of Exile returned to roughly 220 FPS. I noticed a few details: Windows still thought it was the 5800X, but Libre Hardware Monitor and CPU-Z confirmed it was the 5700X3D. Under load, Power usage was 125W, bus speed 127MHz, and temperature reached 71°C. Here are my current specs: CPU: 5700X3D (previously 5800X), Mobo: MSI MPG X570S Edge Max Wifi (BIOS 7D53v1A), GPU: EVGA GeForce RTX 3080, RAM: 32GB Xpower Turbine RGB DDR4 3200MHz, PC: CL16 Dual Channel Kit (2x 16GB). you just need to adjust bclk manually; I don’t understand why it’s running so fast. Using some calculations, 5050 clockspeed was reached with a 39.75x multiplier when using the 5800x, then try the 5700x3d to see if you can replicate it. This will give you more data for an actual OC. Get some screenshots of the BIOS, OC menu, CPU, and hwinfo64. I suggest installing a secondary Windows setup just in case the unstable bclk corrupts your main OS—it’s better safe than sorry.
There’s something unusual here. That 5700x3D model shouldn’t be able to exceed 4450, let alone reach 5.1 GHz. It’s hard to believe the Libre Hardware monitor displayed such reliable numbers, especially given how often these programs distort clock speed data. Have you run any PBO2 tuning in the BIOS? It doesn’t make sense for this chip to hit 5.1 GHz without being cooled under LN2 and making drastic changes to BCLK, which could crash the OS and damage connected drives.
This weekend I plan to revert to the 5800X, clear the CMOS, and restore the BIOS to its original configuration prior to the 5700X3D upgrade. After that, I’ll verify everything functions correctly, perform a few restarts, then switch back to the 5700X3D. I’m wondering what tests should be conducted if it returns to 5.1GHz. The PBO setting on the motherboard was configured as Auto, and I recently uninstalled Ryzen Master while resetting the CMOS afterward. Windows Task Manager displayed a 5.1GHz clock speed, which seems unusual. What’s puzzling me is that Path of Exile and Cinebench 2024 were running smoothly with no issues.
I changed the CPUs once more today and still couldn't get that amazing performance on the 5700X3D. Windows identified it correctly as a 5700X3D this time and everything seems fine. Perhaps I'll attempt it again later with a new Windows setup. I saved my original installation because I wanted to maintain consistency. At least I had a day with exceptional value and performance, and I captured some cool screenshots.
It seems the system likely had a timing issue. Any calculations relying on the clock—like scores or frame rates—would have been impacted. Similar reports have appeared for different processors over time, sometimes involving very high clock speeds. There’s a strong likelihood it was just a random glitch, with no deeper cause.
Maybe the 5700X3D is essentially a 5800X with an extra layer of cache. If the motherboard interprets it as a 5800X and transmits the correct voltage, it could function similarly. It seems likely that CPUs are controlled by the AGESA code, and if it perceives a 5800X, that might have influenced its performance.
