All of a sudden my PC can't run any games. As soon as I launch any game, the game will crash to desktop or freeze up. I've had a few games get to shader compilation and it will say "error: out of video memory trying to allocate a rendering resource." Twice now I've had my PC bluescreen after exiting the game. Things I've tried: - Reinstalling GPU drivers - Testing GPU in Furmark and Uniengine - Testing CPU in Cinebench - Testing SSDs in Samsung Magician - Monitoring CPU/GPU temps - Using a different 12v GPU cable (this was the problem the last time I had PC issues) - Checking EventViewer logs (I don't see any relevant system error logs that occur at the time of the crashes) Maybe this could be an issue with my RAM or power supply instead since my GPU runs fine under stress in Furmark and CPU runs fine in Cinebench? It's worth noting I do have the 13900k which has had well publicized issues, but I did the mobo bios update when it came out and I haven't had any issues with shaders since then. Any help would be appreciated. Here is a link to my PC parts: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BktVTn

It's not a dead 4090, it's more likely a deteriorating or failing 13900k.

If the problem lies with the CPU, reduce its clock speed by 300-500MHz for your 13900K, ensuring at least two fast cores run at the same speed, then test again across all cores. Your previous 14900K became stable after lowering the two 6GHz cores to match the other cores at 5.7GHz.

Thanks for your reply! It seems like this resolved my problem. After lowering the performance core ratio from 55 to 52, all my issues disappeared. I've been playing multiple games for more than an hour now without any problems. I didn't expect this fix since I had installed the recommended Intel micro code bios update and believed it would prevent crashes similar to downclocking. Before that update, I experienced occasional crashes during long shader compilations, but now it's stable. It looks like my CPU has worn out over time and might need even more downclocking than suggested. I'm not familiar with CPU overclocking or underclocking, so I'm hoping this adjustment won't cause any other issues or performance loss. Appreciate your assistance!

I believe this involves software components. Ensure the Intel management engine firmware and driver are current. Consider updating the BIOS as well. With all the patches applied for the 13-14th generation, you must verify drivers align with the firmware. Mismatches can cause inconsistent performance.

The initial solution they discarded during a rush involved restricting power, which lowered CPU performance. The correct remedy addressed the root cause, though if the CPU had been compromised, it might have been too late.

The final microcode updates halted additional harm to the CPUs. Existing wear cannot be repaired; replacement is necessary. I guaranteed the 14900K and have only used the newest microcode and beta release. I experimented with overclocking, but MSI’s power settings appear to counteract it. I switched back to the standard Intel configuration right away after encountering strange crashes in the MSI profile. There may still be occasional issues now, but since I heavily overclock GPU and RAM, it’s not reasonable to immediately attribute them to the CPU.
