I had a great opportunity to purchase a 3080 ftw3 from EVGA. I'm checking if my current configuration is missing anything. *edit* I'm playing on a 120Hz, 3440x1440 G-SYNC screen. Switching from a 1080Ti should give noticeable improvements. With a 5900x and DDR4-3600-CL16, are you expecting a solid frame rate boost—maybe just a few frames per second? Thanks!
It varies depending on the situation. If you trust AMD's figures, and the issue is a GPU limitation, then your improvement will be minimal. If the bottleneck lies with your monitor, any gain will be negligible. When the game engine is the constraint, there will be no benefit. If it's limited by a single CPU core's speed, AMD might suggest a 26% boost, but you'll likely need around 4000 MHz RAM for optimal results.
I think you will be ok. I have done lots of tests with my overclocked 2080 ti and the bottle neck goes away at 3440 X 1440. Here is the difference with SOTTR. At 2560 X 1440 on the highest setting with TAA the game is GPU bound by 86%. At 3440 X 1440 the game is a 99% GPU bound. I am on the EVGA list for a FTW3 Ultra 3080 and 3090. Hope my # comes up soon.
