Your 12700k appears to be behaving oddly.
i recently upgraded to a 12700k and started using a while loop. sometimes the system feels sluggish, so i ran cinebench and got solid results. later, it became very slow for rendering, which prompted me to check the intel tuner app. it showed only 4 cores with just 20% usage. i changed the bios settings and installed my z690 aorus elite ax ddr4 module in the "gaming" CPU profile—no need to overclock, just wanted to see if that would help. After adjusting, cinebench improved significantly, but after a couple more runs it dropped back to 4 cores again (possibly 4 cores or 2 cores with threads). i also tried prime95 and it started at 100% but kept dropping until utilization hit 20%. temperatures stayed under 70°C even at full load, though they rarely exceed 50°C. i have a deepcool castle 360 with duel sided noctua fans in a phantex p500a, providing strong airflow. still puzzled about the issue. recently, a 750-watt seasonic focus gold wasn’t enough for my 3080 and 12700k, but switching to a 1000-watt g6 worked fine.
Checked performance settings, tried standard configurations, verified CMOS status, updated BIOS, etc.
i checked every cpu configuration aorus offered. I installed the latest bios which enabled a higher oc setting, allowing it to reach nearly 200 watts. However, after two consecutive cinebench tests it crashes to 4 cores. I decided to disable the ecores and it now runs smoothly without any issues. But performance drops significantly to around 5800x, which is lower than before. This seems to suggest the cpu is shutting down all cores and only using the e-cores. I also tried turning off throttle protection and increasing heat limits to 100, but it still doesn’t show throttling in the intel app—heat or power settings remain normal.
It's just standard cores. Not a big advantage for most players, so keep it that way. It might just be Windows being slow. I'm using a 12400F with BCLK overclock. I run static OC, disabling C-states with solid frequency and v-core. Still running LLC at level 4. Tried CBr15 but your setup is different. My score was 1965 at 4.4ghz across all threads (12).
