I’m sure this question has been asked many times before. I’m planning to upgrade my PC soon, so I wanted to know. I understand Windows 7 is still functional and likely to receive support for a long time. Is it worth choosing Windows 8.1? It’s newer, likely includes additional features, and probably very similar to 7. What should I do—would I pick 8.1 or stick with 7?
Purchasing outdated hardware or software is nearly always a poor choice.
You mentioned having a Win7 key, but it won't be supported much longer starting in January 2015. I'd suggest using Windows 8 instead, as it's compatible and you can upgrade to Windows 10 later when it becomes available.
