I need to switch from Windows 10 to Windows 7 because I’m frustrated with the issues and restrictions in the newer version. Here are the main points: What are the benefits and drawbacks of downgrading? How should I set up the older operating system? My machine already had Windows 10 installed, so I’m unsure where to begin. Thanks!

Which processor are you using? Just let me know, but keep in mind that 6th or 7th generation Intel and Ryzen chips generally need Windows 10.

Configure your system correctly. If you encounter issues, seek assistance. Windows 10 functions similarly to Windows 7.

From those sources, the motherboard turns off USB support for mice and keyboards, preventing any input during installation. You must update or reinstall drivers on Windows before proceeding. OP, what issues are you encountering? You believe Windows 7 offers better performance?

Pros: A noticeably improved start menu and reduced unnecessary features. Cons: No DirectX 12 compatibility, weak multi-monitor support, limited driver assistance, no updates for newer games or software. No longer receiving security patches after January 14, 2020—this is critical. Every Windows 10 upgrade brings enhancements that boost usability without altering appearance. For the latest changes, check https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4480976. Regular updates are essential for device safety; skipping them leaves you exposed. The US military invests heavily to keep legacy systems secure, as seen in articles like this one. If you prefer Windows, continue using Windows 10. Downgrading means facing issues post-EOL. You can remove unwanted tools in Windows 10 by following recommended steps. If you’re not comfortable with Windows, consider switching to a Linux distribution.

I began using Windows 10 at the start of 2018 once the major gaming problems and bugs were fixed. The biggest issue was with Direct X VRAM. Upgrading from Windows 7 to 10 was often problematic, while installing from a CD gave me more consistent performance. Even my Dosbox games ran smoother on Windows 10 compared to Windows 7.

7 doesn't function properly with 8th and 9th generation Intel processors. Windows 10 works, but you should turn off any tracking features and unnecessary software.

My opinions on the advantages and disadvantages of Windows 7 and Windows 10 are discussed in these articles. Some details may no longer be relevant, but much remains useful: Windows 7 functions well with those Intel processors. The motherboard doesn’t prevent USB drivers from working. However, the Windows 7 installer lacks USB 3 support because USB 3 wasn’t available at the time it launched. You can install USB 3 drivers for Windows 7 using a program such as MSI Smart Tool, which produced a bootable USB 3 installer: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=261560.0. These processors are compatible with Windows 7. All Microsoft actions so far have been to restrict Windows Update on certain CPUs after Skylake. That rule is artificial and can be removed by applying this patch: https://github.com/zeffy/wufuc. I’m not aware of any games that don’t run on Windows 7, except for Microsoft’s UWP titles bought through the store. But those purchases are limited to users who use the Microsoft Store. XP security updates can still be applied with a simple registry adjustment. I assume the same applies to Windows 7 security patches until 2023, when Microsoft will cease releasing updates for Windows 7.

Thanks for your support, H.P. Your system is starting to lag with the latest triple A games. I understand it’s okay to reduce gameplay until a better update comes out. The downsides are minor, as long as Microsoft releases an updated Windows version soon. I’ll make the switch and see if it meets my expectations.
