Looking into your cooling options for a 8700k or comparable CPU. I need to know your clock speed and typical temperature under light stress like Cinnebench. After an overclock, I’m struggling to reach stable 5.0ghz. With the H100iV2, I start throttling around 1.34v or higher. Even at lower voltages like 1.3 or 1.32v, all cores hit temperatures near 95°C.

There’s something off. My setup has an 8700k and I managed 5 ghz at 1.300v on my Hyper 212 EVO... A 100iv2 would be a much better choice than my Hype 212. In Asus Realbench I believe I was getting low to mid 80s... Are the fans connected to the CPU’s PWM header? Are they increasing speed when under load? Something feels completely wrong.

In Cinebench R15 I’m seeing around 73°C and about 77°C in R20. The highest core voltage reported by hwinfo64 is 1.33V. I’m using a 4.9GHz Noctua NH-D15S processor. The scores I’m getting are 1552cb for R15 and 3652cb for R20, even though there’s a lot of background processes running. I just didn’t want to close everything to focus on this. EDIT: I should note I didn’t win the silicon lottery—I’d need to raise voltages significantly to keep stable 5GHz all-core operation, which isn’t worth it. 4.9GHz seems to be the optimal frequency for my CPU.

Running at low speeds lets the fans operate at their lowest settings, which can improve cooling. At higher speeds like 5.0, increasing the fan speed helps more but doesn’t always raise temperatures much. Today I cleared out some debris but haven’t run any tests yet. I think a delid and 360 AIO would be a solid upgrade, though clocking hasn’t delivered noticeable results.
