You've set up Windows 10 on the local C: drive and noticed the presence of the Windows folder and old installation files. It’s feasible to remove the Windows.old directory if needed, though it will free up storage space.

Avoid using Windows; perform a full system reset. Restart the PC through its settings.

Windows.old refers to your earlier Windows setup. Make sure you've saved all the files you don't wish to lose from your older Windows versions like Win7 or Win8.1. It's okay to do that. Note: Microsoft has a method for removing Windows.old, which applies to Win7 but should also work for Win10.

Windows.old directory is secure to remove after confirming you own all required files from your previous Windows 7/8.1 setup.

Sometimes there are .dll files and other files Windows marks as running, making them hard to remove. I can’t delete them on my own, but usually someone else can.

I've just updated the layout after the upgrade. It's simpler now, but you'll need a USB or DVD made using the media creation tool.
