Recently, I tried to apply thermal paste to my CPU but accidentally smudged some to the side. Are those pins important for the CPU? And how should I properly remove the paste from them? Thanks for your help!

Its fine, thermal paste is not conductive You could cover the motherboard in it and it will work just fine But if you want to get it off, use a soft microfiber cloth and a high concentration IPA alcohol
