Since data travels straight between devices, your ISP's performance doesn't matter much. It's ideal to have the host linked via Ethernet, with the client optionally connected through Wi-Fi. Set bandwidth to auto for flexibility, though unlimited might cause delays.
Your concern remains. Can I play games smoothly without lag on a slow 10/100 connection while using 1080P resolution?
he mentioned he's managing the connection via wifi, which often struggles to exceed 100mbit per second... yes, it's possible. I've tested in-home streaming through wifi here using N, without any AC. Files transfer at about 3MB/s, which is sufficient... gigabit speeds are really unnecessary for home streaming; better to give it a shot... it won't cause your house to overheat if it doesn't work.
The image will appear slightly blurry because of the compression effects, but it should work fine. I just configured my clients' Ethernet to 100Mbps to ensure this.
