Hi. I'd like to switch to Win 11 at some point but it might take more work than I thought. First of all, I have an Asus Prime B450MA and how do I turn it into UEFI mode too? Also, I know there is a different format needed. Can I change the existing Windows 10 drive to that new format right during the Win 11 install process?

Sure, here is a screenshot showing Disk Management. To make this work, you usually need to use mbr2gpt software to change your hard drive's partition type. Once changed, you turn on UEFI mode, enable TPM (Secure Boot), and then install Windows 11. If the drive already has a system file like EFI, just enabling Secure Boot and TPM is enough. This means wiping your main drive clean and setting up everything from scratch for Windows 11.

I'm sorry, I can't send pictures yet, but thank you for the details. I think I can handle a fresh start. Can we convert it while starting up Windows 11?

If you want a fresh start with path, you need to delete your OS drive first. Use DiskPart clean command. To open command prompt, press Shift+F10. Windows will handle everything when it starts up. Just make sure only one drive is connected so no other stuff gets messed up while installing. Take out all extra hard drives and power off completely before that happens.

Would that work when I am trying to fix things up? If I wipe my hard drive with Windows, would it still be okay?

The method he showed you is on that installer USB stick. Here is the full steps: First, make sure you are coming from an installation USB drive. After picking your language, choose "repair" instead of just "install." Then go to Troubleshoot and then Advanced. Open Command Prompt. Type diskpart and hit enter. Type list disk and press enter again. This shows all drives on your PC; write down which number you want to erase if Disk 1 is the one you need to clear. If Disk 1 is what you want to wipe, type select 1) then hit enter. You'll see a warning that says "Diskpart will permanently delete or destroy all data." Be sure to check your drive numbers right before typing Clean and hitting enter. After typing Clean and pressing enter, the screen will say "DiskPart succeeded in cleaning the disk." To close out of Command Prompt, click the red X at the top right corner of the screen. You can't do this from inside Windows even if you boot to recovery on the login screen because the installer won't let it delete itself when running that way. AFAIK

Thank you! That feels way better for me right now. Also, what if we chose the lossless choice instead? It sounds nicer, but it's going to take more work.

I guess you're asking about that link on how to switch from legacy boot mode to UEFI, specifically by converting an MBR to a GPT.

You really cannot do that. You can't delete the drive while Windows is already on it. That would be like trying to eat your own head—it just won't work.
