So the first question is what recommendations do you folks have for the power supply? Using the various power supply calculators I'm getting I need a 850 watt PS to be on the safe side.
Next looking over the motherboard manual in addition to the "ATX Power Connector" there's a "8 pin 12V Power Connector" and "4 pin 12V Power Connector". I thought a board is supposed to have either a 4 or 8 pin connector, not both. So do I use both or just the eight pin?
Also the CPU cooler from Noctua comes with "Noctua’s proven NT-H1 thermal compound and a full 6-year manufacturer’s warranty, the NH-U14S TR4-SP3 forms a complete premium-quality solution that combines maximum performance and superb acoustics for enthusiast-grade sTRX4/sWRX8/TR4/SP3 systems." So should I use this thermal compound that came with the cooler or another compound?
Any other tips or suggestions in maximizing this build would be greatly appreciated. Provide links if you can. Thanks in advance.

Ignore the buzz around air fans, opt for a liquid cooler. Corsair would be a good choice, ideally removing the lower two drive bays and installing a Corsair H100i (two fans).
2) Mix AMD and Nvidia setups—don’t go this route. You’ll face the troubles of two brands. The Threadripper series is outdated (5th gen, not 6th), memory support is 2933mhz, and PCIe 3.0 is insufficient for stability.
3) For backup storage connectivity, use Thunderbolt instead of USB—USB won’t be fast enough.
4) NVME on PCIE 3.0 isn’t ideal either, creating another mismatch.
Why the need for 16 cores? You’re imagining a workstation, but with incompatible components there’s no real purpose. Consider what you’ll actually use it for—think carefully.

Where are you purchasing the components? I notice the monitors are directing me to a Hong Kong site.
If you’ve already acquired the parts and are just awaiting a PSU recommendation, here’s what to do:
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/hC...-m...50fnfagu-4
Use all available power connectors—both 8-pin and 4-pin.
The nighttime thermal paste should be suitable.
I recommend sticking with Nocua SP3 coolers since their cold plate design is fully optimized for the IHS, offering better performance than a liquid cooler with partial coverage.
The only significant drawback I see is the case itself; it doesn’t provide good airflow and, given your current setup, it could lead to overheating.
Do you really need the optical disk drive? If yes, would an external one suffice?
For budget-conscious buyers, consider these options:
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/YLGbt6/...bkgaa4-g-1
or

The maximum isn't significantly higher and is already reached with fan configuration for air cooling. The Deepcool would likely improve build quality a bit more. However, I'd choose the 3960X if it doesn't offer much more, as the IPC gain could be better for applications that aren't very multithreaded.

And if the operation is in HK, the technology won't be available.

Thanks to those who have responded so far.
Here are some of your questions regarding my decisions and objectives with this system:
- The links I received from Google were intended to give you details about the components.
- The parts I have now are already owned, having been purchased from Amazon, eBay, NewEgg, etc.
- I treat computers much like cars; I don’t buy new ones. I wait until problems are resolved before purchasing used, after major issues are addressed—hence I began searching in 2018.
- I’m located in the USA.
- This system will remain unmodified.
- Windows 10 Pro will be my primary boot choice at the moment. Windows 11 isn’t available yet. I might switch to UNIX if Microsoft makes a mistake.
- I only use air cooling. Unless there’s someone with a lot of cash ready to pay me if my water cooling fails, I won’t proceed.
- On the motherboard page, when I click Support>Storage QVL, the Team 4TB M.2 drive is listed as the largest supported. I want to utilize the available storage space fully.
- On the motherboard page, clicking Support>Memory QVL shows the Corsair CMK128GX4M8A2666C16 as one of the fastest non-overclocked options, allowing me to maximize the 128GB RAM available.
- I selected two optical drives because family members often need backups, and having two drives is more efficient. I also use one drive for movies while working on another. Internal drives were chosen to keep my desk tidy and reduce clutter. Fewer external devices mean less plugging in.
- The processor was picked to support both the graphics card and my experience with various UNIX distributions running in virtual machines.
- Although I enjoy playing games on my PC, I’m not a professional or even an armchair gamer. I’m just a casual player.
- I chose the NVIDIA graphics card because it appeared to be the best fit, despite opting for an AMD system. At that time, there weren’t many AMD options with PCI-e 3.0x16 support.
- My aim is to future-proof my system for the near future. As a saying goes, “I’d rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.”

With this updated information, let’s check if any suggestions change.

One more thing...
- The displays are 1080p. I don't see a need to go beyond 1920x1080
Thanks.

This clarifies the queries. And yes, the TT GF3 850W would work perfectly.
