Hello, I’m looking into possible upgrades for my system, especially the CPU and motherboard. I have an AMD Ryzen 7 1700X 3.4Ghz with 20MB RAM on an ASUS PRIME X370-PRO AM4 ATX board. My graphics card is a GTX1060 OC with dual fans and 3GB GDDR5 memory. I’m considering replacing the CPU and motherboard, but I want to stay under $1500. CPU and motherboard appear to be in good shape, so pairing with a 2080 is acceptable. The 1060 3GB fits more like the 1050Ti than the 1060 6GB. You'll still need a power supply rated above 600 watts. If you're keen on upgrading the CPU, you don't necessarily need to replace the motherboard—once the BIOS is updated, it should support a 4xxx series Ryzen.
You won't need to invest more than 1500 dollars. With this motherboard, you can get a 3800x or even a 3900x—just make sure to update the BIOS before upgrading. Your RAM speed matters; Ryzen performs best with quick memory, but with 64 GB it's tough to upgrade unless it's around 2666 MHz. If that's the case, consider a 3600... kit. It would significantly improve performance with big files. A 3800x costs about 400 dollars or less and is an excellent chip. For more power, a 3900x offers top-tier desktop performance.
rtx 2080 superis a decent choice. it has decent price to performance and in my opinion I would call the rtx 2080 super the sweetspot of high end gpu's. that motherboard you have is decent. but still i would wait for new cpu's from AMD and upgrade then if you need to. your gpu is the weakest point in your system rn.
