Hi, I'm facing a problem with my PC. The lights indicate power is on, but pressing the power button doesn't work. My system runs an Asus P8 Z77-V LX, has an Intel Core I5-3570K CPU, Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM, and a 600W aerocool power supply. Recently, I bought a Palit GTX 1070 Jetstream and connected it using a Molex to an 8-pin PCIe adapter powered by my budget PSU (500-CB).
During gameplay, the GPU would lose power and shut down, displaying a warning like "Asus Anti-Surge Protection activated." I tried booting into Windows, using Afterburner, and set the power limit to 70%, which limited the GPU to 130 watts—within the max draw for Molex on a 12V rail. However, I noticed my PSU was quite cheap. When I opened Fortnite with my brother, the PC turned off unexpectedly. After removing the GPU, I waited a few minutes before trying again, but then a pop sound came from the power supply. I quickly switched it off and unplugged it.
Today, I replaced the PSU with one from a friend that worked well. All power LEDs lit up, but pressing the power button still didn't activate anything. Please help me resolve this issue.
This power supply seems to be outdated and probably worthless. Despite advertising 85% efficiency, it doesn't meet basic standards like bronze rating. Consider replacing it with a better option first.
If fans/lights fail to activate upon pressing power, it may mean the PSU isn't connected or the system is off. When power is applied and lights turn on, but no boot occurs, the MB or CPU is likely dead. If lights appear but nothing happens afterward, the MB or power supply is probably faulty. A possible cause could be a corrupted BIOS.
