When I started assembling my first PC in February, I chose to cut back on RAM to save money and bought a 2x4GB Patriot DDR4 kit running at 2666MHz. The CPU was an AMD Ryzen 5 2600. This decision might have been suboptimal because upgrading to a 27-inch 1440p monitor and a new graphics card (GTX 1060 to RTX 2060 Super) would have made RAM the main limitation. I considered the G-Skill Trident-z RGB 2x8GB at 3200MHz, but heard that 32GB could be beneficial for the RTX 2060 Super. Was 3200MHz suitable for a Ryzen 5 2600? And if I install two RAM sticks, can I transfer the old one to another slot even though they differ in frequency?
You don’t require 32gb for gaming. It won’t assist with anything. The optimal choice is a 2x8gb setup with 3600 C16. Adding your old unit won’t improve performance—it might even slow it down. Consider selling it instead. You’re better off with less than 16gb.
