Hey everyone. I made a big error a few weeks back. I upgraded my Surface RT to Windows 8.1 RT (was it Windows RT.1?). I had to create a live account and gave up any chance of using this tablet for personal tasks—it's now family-owned with the family computer. You'd think I'd set security questions and personal details while creating the account, but I didn't. It happened around 5 AM after nearly 48 hours awake and I wasn't thinking clearly. I lost my password, used a recovery email that might not exist, and entered an old landline number as the recovery phone. So... can I reset the tablet without logging in? I know this sounds suspicious, but it's tied to my name on the device. If it's that big of a problem, I guess I could post it for verification but prefer not to. Thanks.

Reach out to the PC maker support, though it might not be very useful. Visit their website at the provided link or reset your password through the Live account page.

It looks uncertain. If you intend to use this, make sure to save all your crucial files on an external hard drive or USB using the Live CD version of Ubuntu to retrieve them.

Do you possess a password reset disk? If yes, place it in and proceed; if not, refer to the tutorial video for resetting a Windows 8 password.

Password reset disk functions only with local accounts, not live ones.
