Hello everyone, I'm new to setting up a new system and usually use used components. I've got a Ryzen 5 4500 ready to go into a motherboard I bought last week. Have you heard if I need to update the BIOS to support my CPU? Thanks!

The board needs at least BIOS version F14 to operate that chip. It might include that BIOS or a newer one by default, but this isn't assured. Check the CPU support list here: https://www.gigabyte.com/Ajax/SupportFun...Value=7401 If you discover it lacks the correct BIOS and purchased it new, you can return it to the seller for a BIOS upgrade. You can modify the BIOS by reading the manual and following the steps to update it (make sure you have another machine to download the updated BIOS onto a memory card).

Would it make sense to test the chip to check for booting? You’d likely notice if an incompatible BIOS causes it to power on but nothing else occurs.

It may turn on and show a message, then restart after a short time. Your board support allows you to update the BIOS without a matching CPU. Test it and if it doesn’t work, refer to the Q-Flash Plus guide for BIOS updates.
