as long as they manage to conduct electricity with minimal resistance, the cpu and board should work okay. i might even be able to solder the pads to create a low-resistance path since only the gold has been removed.

After reassembly, I increased it to 4.5 for benchmarks, then lowered the core to 4.4 and reduced the voltage since the temperature gap between core and chip was the main issue. The real problem was PLL OVERVOLTAGE ENABLED stayed on for months after I brought it back down to 4.4.
today i opened the pin to find it’s pitted. The i5 3470 uses pins designed for frequency, so you can only set the multiplier to 4.0 GHz. Going higher needed using the BCLK clocks. I had the PLL OVERVOLTAGE ENABLED on the chip, and it worked smoothly for two years. The main issue was with the BSODs because of a faulty Mybram OC.
