Asus laptop model X415E is stuck in a difficult setup situation. My non-tech stepdad had his laptop installed by someone during a crisis (after a house fire), and no one was aware of what they were doing. He has no idea what he’s dealing with, and the person assisting doesn’t know anything either. He doesn’t remember his password or PIN, nor does he know how to reset it. The BIOS doesn’t offer a factory reset option. I’m stuck—no way to recover, and I can’t find any factory reset info. I’m completely at a loss. The laptop won’t let me reset the PIN or go to “forgot pin,” and every time I try a wrong pin it forces a full PC reset. I need a complete factory reset, but I can’t locate any guidance. I also can’t access Asus support on my mobile device.

Please help if anyone can assist!

Edit: The email they used isn’t valid. We managed to retrieve the password, but I’m only able to log in with the PIN—Microsoft has sent an outdated link.

Edit 2: After pressing Shift during restart, it offered a “forgot pin/pw” option and allowed me to add a user account. It also suggested changing the PIN, but that step failed and caused another error. Now I’m back to square one.

if you can't reach ASUS directly for a system reset, you might need to format the drive and reinstall the operating system.
what is the purchase date and how long does the warranty cover this device?
if you have no access to a mobile device for support, there are various places where users can use computers, such as libraries or internet cafes.

I want to perform a factory reset, but I need to do it through the BIOS since I can't access Windows logs or similar features. However, I don't see any BIOS options available online for this model. ASUS also says only a few laptops support factory resets, and I didn't find this specific one in their list. It was purchased just a few months ago—possibly in January or February. I can use my phone, but I'm having trouble asking on Reddit because it doesn't work for me there. (I think Asus has support there.) I've tried factory resets before, but I can't locate the option in BIOS.

There was no OS disc because the laptop didn’t have a CD/DVD drive. I’m confused about how support can help me recover anything through the phone when I can’t log into Windows. Microsoft keeps throwing errors and bugs, making it impossible to access any functionality. I’ve tried all the recovery steps possible, but they just stop working.
