I'm using Comcast Xfinity with the "Gigabit" plan and unlimited data. I'm wondering what to do now since my speeds are really fast—my family was okay with 200Mbps and just needed more upload. The main question: how should I use these high speeds? I already downloaded all my Steam and GOG library files, got a lot of free games, backed up my photos and videos to iCloud, and I know parents often use Macs. Any suggestions on what I can download or do next would be great.

I’d rather my parents have TV addictions so I’m surrounded by streaming options. I don’t usually download software because DRM exists and I don’t enjoy playing Russian roulette with viruses. I also lack the motivation to sit through a movie. For example, we only use our TV for hockey games and that’s about it. Music is my main focus—I can’t really tell the difference between lossless and compressed formats, so I’m stuck there. The real joke is I don’t really need to torrent or download anything.

I can handle that. My dad’s office has a symmetrical gigabit connection with a static IP address—he owns the business, so he could realistically manage a symmetrical 50 Mbps for his role.

It seems you're asking about the current setup for streaming and gaming. Most areas of the US offer Comcast's "Gigabit" Plan with speeds around 1.2 Gbps down and 35 Mbps up, but upgrading to higher speeds requires a modem with a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port and a router with the same capability. You can host game servers, set up a Plex server for remote viewing, and stream content in 4K if you're comfortable with piracy.

To keep the bill low each month, we must rely on Xfinity’s poor modem.

Unlimited data means only a small price change compared to using your own modem versus theirs.
