I've noticed something unusual on my PC. I have two identical memory modules from Corsair, each 8GB at 2400MHz. The motherboard tested them without issues and shows a full 16GB in Windows. However, CPU-Z displays 8GB, while Gadget only shows 8GB. It's unclear which source is accurate—CPU-Z or the operating system? This inconsistency is really strange and hard to believe.

The process adapts to various configurations. If you change the slot arrangement, it adjusts accordingly. Having just one of the two sticks installed still allows the operation to proceed, though functionality may be limited.

It occurred to me once when a DIMM became slightly unstable; the clips that secure it began to weaken. Changing the slots where they’re placed should resolve the issue.

No, not all DIMMs function independently.

One memory card might affect the motherboard slot too?

What does Task Manager say? Do you have 8GB in Hardware Reserved by chance? Not that it should impact, but curious.

Unless the device is physically harmed beyond repair, it shouldn’t harm the motherboard. If the alternative connector fails, it’s probably because the slot is compromised or the CPU isn’t connecting correctly with its pins or the memory controller is faulty.

Navigate to MSConfig, select the boot section, then tap on advanced settings and check "maximum memory." Ensure it isn't marked as active if you want to disable it.

Issue detected: Physical RAM malfunction detected. Requires return to manufacturer support. Confusion arises from CPU-Z software behavior. Program appears functional but may be misinterpreting system data.
