Hello, your current internet provider blocks access to the modem/router and enforces strict NAT rules. This leads to frequent disconnections, lag, and connection problems while playing games like GTA Online. They denied allowing even a test port for GTA 5, which is frustrating. Since other ISPs in your area don’t seem to help, using a VPN might not be reliable. You could try alternative solutions such as switching to a different provider or checking if your device supports a more stable connection.

The connection stays stable with a VPN, but the overall experience isn’t ideal, which is why you’re looking for an open port without relying on a VPN.

Starting ports doesn't matter when connections drop. Playing occasionally online but losing connection shows it's not about ports.

I’m not sure what the reason was for using ports, but I want my NAT to be decent so I can play with other players and friends for a bit longer. My ISP is really unreliable—they don’t let me change anything or access the router. If I skip a VPN, which takes me to France, Switzerland, or Germany when I’m in Nepal, I get disconnected or end up in an empty session right after about five minutes. Sometimes I can’t even connect at all from day one, and because the servers I’m linked to are far away, I face high ping and lag.

It seems the issue likely stems from both high latency and a weak internet connection, which are hard to fix on your side.

I experience better ping when connected to a VPN and avoid disconnections. My ISP assigned a strict NAT setting, and when I asked for a moderate NAT type, they suggested purchasing their premium package, which is more expensive than my current plan—far exceeding the bandwidth I actually use. That’s why I began using a VPN, which provided a moderate NAT and allowed me to interact more with friends, though it isn’t perfect. Thank you for your responses; it means a lot.

The NAT configuration seems strict likely because of CGNAT and IPv4 depletion. It appears another issue might be present. Are you using a console or a PC? Do you connect via Ethernet? Have you tried any free VPN services?

I use PC and connect via Ethernet. I've tried Proton VPN, Tunnel Bear, and Windscribe so far. I might have used other services too but can't remember. It's free right now, which is good. If this is because of what you mentioned, I guess I have limited options. I hope I can upgrade to a paid VPN and connect to a server nearer me. The only issue is that their NAT settings changed between moderate and strict again. When I asked if they could revert it, they said no and suggested their premium plan which offers less bandwidth but costs more. I'm unsure why this would be better now, especially since it was possible before. Even if it works, I'd call it a bad deal. Also, the daily time limit or higher cost for 24/7 access is annoying. Sorry for the lengthy explanation—I'm just upset about all this.

Considering a VPS close by could let you establish a VPN link through it. The main distinction is that a provider will probably track usage, which removes some privacy advantages. However, you might still gain access to a nearby server depending on the VPS location.
