Use the same installation key you had before—it should function properly with Windows 10. You can locate it through a key finder tool or link it to your Microsoft account for continued access.

When the free upgrade is available for 7 or 8, the key will move on its own.

It seems the free upgrade option is no longer available, so you may need to purchase Windows again. :v

keys are attached to the motherboard, reinstall the same version you used before (for example, if you installed Win 10 Pro, reinstall that version). If prompted, skip the key entry and once setup is complete, it should turn on automatically.

If it doesn't work, let me know how you'd like to proceed.

Ensure the digital license is connected to your Microsoft account. In the ideal situation, the device recognizes the activation without further steps, while otherwise you may need to log in to your account to complete the process.

Keys remain restricted to your motherboard when using an OEM key. Buying a "retail" key allows you to assign it to any number of devices you prefer.

The laptop appears to work, the key should transfer correctly. If your desktop lacks an OEM board, you'll need your key. You can obtain it in two ways: 1) Sign in with your Microsoft account and connect it to your PC, which will allow you to pick a product key during activation after reinstall; 2) Download a tool that identifies the key and save it for use during setup. I personally use and suggest ProduKey for this purpose.
