why is it better to have a more future-proof processor instead of just having one that works now?
The price has increased, the project is past its budget, and personally I prefer a better graphics card for immediate performance over a CPU that might be useful later. Your point isn’t incorrect—many of my friends have used 1600x with an 1060 and 6GB RAM for that reason. It really comes down to what matters most. Hope this helps the person who started this discussion. Everyone’s situation is different.
Hey thanks for the part lists and i really appreciate it but i now have a new list based on your suggestions CPU: ryzen 5 1400 GPU: NVIDIA gtx 1060 4g PSU: EVGA 550 watt RAM: 4gb hyperx fury MOBO: AMD AM4 mATX GA-A320M-DS2 Cooler: stock cooler Hard drive: 2tb western digital SSD 128 gb kingston. I think this is a good build for my budget, thanks for all the suggestions. Edited July 21, 2017 by youngandlost typo
Ensure you have at least 8GB of RAM. Consider getting a 1050Ti now for better value, then switch to a used 1060 with 6GB or an RX580 once mining slows—they’ll drop below $150 as they become more common.
In my nearby shop memory cards are costly for a reason, and 8 gigabytes of memory costs around one hundred dollars, making it hard to afford the same for seven hundred dollars.
You can still return the GPU. This build works well; just follow the steps and replace the graphics card with the one listed at the link. No SSD was needed since you found one for cheap, and there’s no need for a cooler as it’s already in stock.
