Whenever I purchased from a store other than the official source or Steam, I received the key on the day it was released.

Ordered Evolve ahead of its release on GMG a few days prior, received the key. But after months away from Fallout 4 and Just Cause 3, I’m skeptical now. I understand pre-orders aren’t ideal, but the $33.30 price tag for Just Cause 3 feels like a good deal. Fallout 4 seems delayed, and I haven’t played Fallout 3 myself—so why are people so excited?

Keys arrive on the release day or occasionally a few days earlier. Straight from GMG.

It's not great, but I thought you might get a key and use it to unlock the game right away.

Even if you obtain a key via Steam, it won't allow you to download the game until it's officially released. Usually that's the case.

That’s not the usual process for pre-orders. I believe most stores don’t release keys until a few days before the launch. Physical copies are sent out 2-3 days prior... And even if you obtain the key, Steam and similar services won’t let you download the game files until a couple of days before release—unless the publisher has given permission.

I understand you can't download the game, but with Evolve I obtained the key after buying it. It's puzzling how GMG can offer a 26% discount on new releases while still maintaining profit. Valve deducts a 30% fee for every game sold on Steam, so if GMG purchases the keys at the same price as Valve, they still profit from the remaining 4%.
