Hello, I'm using Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and my computer isn't starting properly. I'm trying to find out if the digital activation is tied to my Microsoft account. I've attempted various methods to boot normally but haven't succeeded. In safe mode it works, but I can't access the activation settings or update them. I've backed up all necessary files from the system. I'm considering a drive swap and starting over, hoping to avoid paying for a new activation if needed. Thanks in advance, and please correct my English.

It's connected to your motherboard or Microsoft account, which means you should be okay.

problems with your key won't block this; if you're selectively blind to watermarks, you can run Windows 10 without enabling it. NOTE: changing the drive usually lets the installer detect activation quickly or after using the activation troubleshooter.

It seems unexpected that you received a prompt so quickly. If you swapped the drive and used the same Windows version, would it request any code or information? Most guides require a product key or linked account to activate, but this isn't coming from a key—it's due to the power being interrupted during the update process, leaving you stuck.

Just confirming your setup—do you have an older system that might struggle with Windows 10 key recognition?

I have a system no older than four years. It's an Intel I5-4690k with an MSI Z97 board and 16 GB of HyperX RAM. Still, the issue happened after power was cut during an update, even though there were no problems before.

The device should turn itself back on properly.
