I haven't used it myself, but RUFUS offers the chance to pick my external hard drive as a removable unit. It seems likely to function. A brief online search suggests it should work too. https://www.diskpart.com/articles/instal...-0725.html

That's feasible. I generally recommend against it since it moves very slowly. Even a standard USB 2.0 flash drive installs Windows much more quickly than a spinning disk. While an external SSD offers convenience and speed, a USB thumb drive remains the most practical option unless you have no alternatives. The HDD performs slightly better than a DVD, but only marginally.
