I thought they were merely transferring their PS3 via a capture card and some OBS software. It wasn’t really streaming the console itself.

Those who use gaming consoles and live streams typically record their output with a capture card connected to a computer. Personally, I’m pretty sure you can’t stream a PC using a PS3.

Even with video input added, the device probably wouldn't handle more than what your computer can already do. Streaming directly from the console seems to have been included with PS4. Keep in mind we're discussing hardware from 2006, which was already less powerful than typical PCs back then. It was also too limited to stream anything beyond 480p quality. Your modern PC far surpasses that capability.
