I upgraded my Pentium G3258 to 4.3 GHz in 2014, but it still struggled under heavy loads. Even with the GTX 970, performance was limited—framers often fluctuated between 25 and 90 FPS, especially during CPU-light titles like Tomb Raider 2013 and Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor. In games such as Crysis 3, I couldn’t maintain a steady 30 FPS even at 1080p60, and it dropped significantly in Cyberpunk or Plague Tale Requiem. Bioshock Infinite and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2/3 performed well at 1080p, but the overall experience was far from smooth. The other titles I tried were solid at 1080p60. If you’re looking for better results, consider modern CPUs like the i7-4770 or Xeon E3-1231v3; they’ll handle these games much more efficiently compared to the older GPU setup.

It will also work with k-chips, though overclocking might be limited. I used a small H81 board (Gigabyte GA-H81M-DS2V) that allowed me to boost my Pentium G3258 to 4.3 GHz back in 2014. It likely lacked the VRMs needed for high voltages and large overclocks, but it gave me the ability to tweak voltages and adjust the CPU multiplier.

The situation is tough—there aren’t any processors compatible with the 1150 socket, not even used or new ones. I don’t think getting an RX 480 is a good idea; it’s better to upgrade the GPU first and then move on to a new CPU. I was considering saving for an i3-10100F with a new motherboard.

Since the PC is being assembled, why not give it a shot? Even though many think two cores with two threads are very limited for 2023, trying it might still be worthwhile. What damage could there be in attempting it?

Yeah. I thought if GT 1030 with i3-3220 can run a plague tale requiem in 30+fps why wouldn't i be able to, but still idk. There was one benchmark too with RX 580 and i3-3220 that ran game on 1360x768, probably low or medium on 30+
